Make space for the question
A measurement that repeats closely is not automatically a measurement that answers an important question. Suppose a scale records a tiny change very consistently, but the report never explains why that change matters. The consistency concerns how steadily the measurement behaves; importance concerns what its difference means. Both deserve attention, without allowing one to stand in for the other. A useful reading habit is to finish two separate sentences: the result seems dependable because, and the result would matter because. If only one sentence can be completed, the other remains open.
Keep these questions nearby
- What supports the dependability of the measurement rather than its practical importance?
- How does the report explain why the measured difference would matter?
- Could a consistently measured change still leave the main concern unresolved?
